The primary criteria for Apple Mac users to be able to create a Yophoto product is the ability to create a print resolution pdf from their artwork.
This can be achieved using virtually all the popular current business software, the most notable being the Adobe Creative Suite and Quark Xpress.
Multi Page PDFs
The end result needs to be a multi page pdf, running in the correct sequence, having crop marks and at least 2mm of bleed, the document centred on an oversize page. Much of the preparatory creative work can be done in Photoshop or Illustrator if required, though we would recommend that the page layout be prepared by InDesign or QuarkXpress.
Page Sizes
The sizes listed below are the finished trimmed size of the printed pages. These are the dimensions that should be used for setting up page/layout properties. Please allow tinted boxes or picture frames to run off the page by at least 2mm to form a bleed area where required.
Big Photobook - 300mm x 300mm Portrait Photobook - 210mm x 297mm Landscape Photobook - 297mm x 210mm Compact Photobook - 210mm 148mm
It is possible to create page layouts that have images running as double page spreads across the binding margin. Be aware that approximately 3mm of the centre margin will be lost due to the stitched binding process. Therefore, keep important parts of an image or text away from the binding area.
Colour Space/Images
The printing presses use conventional CMYK colour space, and are fed by an offline RIP (Raster Image Processor) that will convert incoming pdf’s into a press ready format. The RIP is optimised to process RGB, sRGB and CMYK, having tried and tested colour curves to reproduce faithful vibrant colour.
Once the artwork is finished the next stage will be to create a pdf. Please take a look at the following screen shots to follow the parameters for making a good print ready pdf, that has fonts embedded, crop marks, bleed, and transparent items flattened to the right degree.
Pricing
There is a one off £20 set up charge for all Photobooks received as multi page pdf files.
